MATT'S MOTORS

MATT'S MOTORS

US VEHICLES - LIGHT ADJUSTMENT TO UK SPEC.

When driving in the UK, left-hand drive cars (made for driving on the right-hand side of the road) must have lights that meet UK regulations. If your car is more than 3 years old it will require an MOT; this will be a fail if the lights are not correct.

Our light adjustment service ensures your car is legal and safe:

 • Headlights must dip to the left

 • Amber turning lights (indicators) are required at front and rear

 • Front parking lights must be white

 • Vehicles must be fitted with a red rear fog light

Call us today on 01638 715725 to book your US spec car in for a  light adjustment,  or send us an email here and we'll get back to you with our first available date.

MOT INSPECTION

An MOT (Ministry of Transport) test certificate is required by UK law to certify that your vehicle meets safety standards, and is roadworthy. All vehicles over 3 years old must pass an MOT test which needs to be renewed every 12 months. An MOT for a 3-year-old vehicle can be issued by any MOT testing station. The testing station will either issue the MOT certificate or charge for any work required to make your car roadworthy plus the cost of the MOT certificate. THERE IS NO GRACE PERIOD AND NO REMINDER WILL BE SENT OUT.

IMPORTED US VEHICLES that are under 3 years old require a special MOT. A special MOT can only be issued by an approved garage such as Matt's Motors.  The special MOT needs only to be renewed when the vehicle officially reaches 3 years old.

You are responsible to maintain a valid MOT certificate for your vehicle at all times.

REMEMBER: IT IS ILLEGAL TO DRIVE A VEHICLE ON UK ROADS WITHOUT A VALID MOT CERTIFICATE OR A SPECIAL MOT (as detailed above).

If your car is imported into the UK then it gets free road tax for the first year.  After this period the owner is liable to pay.

The cost of road tax varies between vehicles.  For the current rates please visit the UK Government's site here.
